Lavender Toner Guide - DIY
Making your own lavender facial toner is an excellent, cost-effective way to soothe and hydrate your skin. Lavender is naturally anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and calming, making it perfect for most skin types—especially sensitive or acne-prone skin.
Lavender hydrosol is the main ingredient of lavender toner
Ingredients & Equipment
Below is a simple, highly effective recipe using natural ingredients.
Pure Lavender Hydrosol: 1/2 cup (4 oz)
Witch Hazel (alcohol-free): 2 tablespoons
Vegetable Glycerin: 1/2 teaspoon
Dried Lavender Buds (optional): 1 tablespoon
Amber Glass Spray Bottle: 1 bottle (4 oz)
Lavender Toner Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Base (Infusion Option)
If using Lavender Hydrosol: Simply measure out 1/2 cup of hydrosol and proceed to Step 2.
If using Distilled Water & Dried Lavender: Bring 1/2 cup of distilled water to a gentle simmer. Remove from heat, add 1 tablespoon of dried lavender buds, cover, and let steep for 15–20 minutes. Strain the liquid thoroughly through a fine-mesh sieve or coffee filter and let it cool completely.
Step 2: Combine the Astringent and Humectant
In a small glass measuring cup, mix 2 tablespoons of alcohol-free witch hazel with 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin.
Stir well until the glycerin is completely dissolved and integrated into the witch hazel.
Step 3: Mix the Toner
Pour your cooled lavender water (or hydrosol) into the glass measuring cup containing the witch hazel and glycerin mixture.
Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
Step 4: Bottle and Store
Using a small funnel, pour the completed toner into your clean amber glass spray bottle.
Label your bottle with the ingredients and the date made.
Storage: Keep the bottle in a cool, dark place, or store it in the refrigerator for an extra-refreshing, cooling sensation when applied!
Lavender Toner - How to Use & Pro-Tips
Application: After cleansing your face, close your eyes and mist the toner directly onto your face and neck, or spray it onto a reusable cotton pad and gently sweep it upward across your skin. Follow immediately with your favorite moisturizer or facial oil to lock in the hydration.
Shelf Life: Because this recipe does not contain chemical preservatives, use it within 2 to 3 weeks if stored at room temperature, or up to 1 month if kept refrigerated.
⚠️ Watch Out For: Always perform a patch test on your inner wrist before applying it to your face to ensure you don't have any sensitivities to the lavender. Ensure your witch hazel is strictly alcohol-free, as alcohol can strip the skin and cause dryness or irritation.
